You can extend/split out an additional wire from the hub to a bar-mount USB converter. If the lights are on it'll simply pull most of the power away from the USB box.
I got the SON option after having a similar set up inc a B+M USB-Werk on my tourer for a while. The light the SON Brompton set up comes with has a better beam pattern than the Shimano option, but it's not as good (wide or high lux) as an Edelux 2. Still, a really good option. Recommended.

Also what’s the saving? £120 for wheel and lights sounds good, but need to know how much I’m saving to make the leap..
