• Bontrager Mud X or Specialized Storm Control will grip on basically every surface and be pretty fast even in the dry. You don't need massive volume for trail riding, and the bigger you go, the more extreme your tyres need to be to provide the grip you're after, and the more arduous they become to pedal anywhere.

    In the wet, maybe. Opposite in the dry IMO.

  • It's California-dry twice a year in the UK. Even then I've had few issues with the mud tyres, and witnessed some very sketchy moments with tred-light plus tyres
