Any basic (and cheap-ish) turntables kicking around at the moment? Not looking for anything fancy. Cheers

JVC LA31, direct drive, (better than a Pioneer PL12D and most of the mid range decks people love but nobody wants to pay for JVC gear, ridiculous) automatic, missing the lid, 70 quid?

any spicy tonearms in your personal collection?
-
• #1084
Unfortunately not! I'm planning to put together my ultimate turntable soon comprising of a Technics SP-10 motor unit in a custom plinth with either a BBC tonearm or an SME. I've got thousands of records but vinyl has never been a priority for me, that might change with the SP10.

an sp10 will probably be the next step for me too. i need to find a clean one...
i had my tonearm rewired/new hybrid bearings/etc by a dude that fettles sp10s - new power supply and plinth, etc. he hotrods audio technica arms for them too. they are outstanding.
if you want to be put in touch, let me know.

Local guy selling these as part of a set
1x Yamaha CD player (cdx-493)
1x Yamaha amplifier (AX-396)
2x Eltax floor standing speakers (unknown)for £80 - seems a good bargain - am i right in thinking i can just add a quality turntable to this amp (no pre-amp) and i should be good to go with a nice setup?

Yep im pretty sure that Yamaha has a phono input, decent for £80, speakers are the weak point, never seen anything by Eltax that was even remotely worth looking at

Haha... possibly the first Arcam CD player did the same thing: Philips transport, Arcam analogue stage and psu. I guess the excuse is it's all 1s and 0s up to that point.

Haha! Nothing new about that, I just repaired a 19KG Denon A1XV SA/DVD/CD player that used a pathetic plastic transport which cost around £35 iirc. The whole unit cost 3k in 2005...

Hmmm well even the Naim CD players had Philips transports. Mine failed within two years of purchase and was a chargeable replacement. Still going 15 years later but I hear Naim's vast stock of these transports is shrinking by the day.
Unfortunately I don't think i've got any pre's that would go with that Rotel right now, the Luxman Z502 is nice but wouldn't match it visually if you're bothered by that. The Russ Andrews HP1 would go perfectly but it's a shoebox size pre and only has 2 inputs.
The 70's Rotel RA611 is probably the best integrated i've got right now.
