I have. Not due to abuse, not due to bad maintenance, it was only 800km old. It just leaked.
It was so easy to change it though :)However, can anyone confirm that it is possible to use 2 piston mtb calipers with the road STI's? I feel like SLX or XT should be more sturdy than the road specific calipers

You can plug them in and they'll work, but they might not 'feel right'. I wouldn't bother myself. There's no durability benefit, they work in the same way, you just got unlucky.
Who the hell is experiencing leaky Shimano brakes? I have Shimano hydraulics of varying levels on my commuter, CX and mountain bike. They’ve been faultless. The only maintenance is popping new pads in and cleaning the side of the pistons with an earbud dipped in mineral oil once a year.
