I think - not sure but.. might be that the older ones aren't as serviceable as newer ones and end caps not designed to come off in the same way. can't remember where I've got that idea from but i do remember giving up trying to service an old pair some time ago

Drilled out the plastic caps (in a rage, and then re-read the service kit instructions afterwards with the note to discard them... phew), put in the new bearings and seals, locked up with new caps (metal, allen-key fixing), nice.
Good as new-ish for £20, will see how they last. These are 10 years old already so have had monies-worth.

Eggbeaters. Any ideas to get the f-n plastic end caps off (they appear to be threaded) without mangling them. Which I have almost already done. And have tried shouting at them already.
