Buy them and report back.
How would that play with your current FS?

I think I only need one MTB - a 120 or 130mm traily 29er. How different that is to a traily 120mm 27.5 bike is a question, I guess. I could just use that for everything.
If I went to BPW again I wouldn't take my own bike. Probably the same if I went to Morzine.

Makes sense if you're not going to XC race

Makes sense if you're not going to win XC races
Nothing stopping you from doing them on that kind of bike, I'm not sure how much it would hold you back, compared to fitness / ability.

Suspension wizards, why does my fork make this noise?
redacted
Apologies if it's hard to see/hear, it was very difficult to film and bounce the fork at the same time

Wot forks?
Could be air passing in and out of the stantion seals. Does it sound a bit wheezy?
-
• #12361
Yeah, wheezy. It's a Rockshox Recon Silver I think.
I'm first owner of the bike and it's not had a hard life, I'm still on the original chain/tyres/etc to give an indication of mileage

Absolutely loving Penshurst. Never dreamed I’d be hitting these lines when I first walked it three visits ago. Not sure where my yolo attitude has been for 45 years :)

Dem bars...
Apparently this Legnano is worth real money. Doesn’t stop it languishing in the ‘dungeon’ storage area though...

Sick. I’ve only ever raced cross there.
-
• #12365
Yeah, I've raced cross there too. And an XC race. Enjoying this DH lark at the mo.

Did it get very wet? You need to be a bit careful with those because the upper legs can corrode.
If it is air blowing past the leg seals that’s bad because means other stuff can get sucked in.

Did it get very wet?
I live in Scotland, there's your answer
I wanted to ride it tomorrow at Glentress. Reckon I should risk it or cancel the trip?

Stick the forks upside down then use the pointy end of a zip tie to make a gap between the seal and the upper leg. See what if anything comes out. Should be clean thick oil.
I’d ride them. They probably need a lowers service and new damper oil.

So much to consider with mtb... should never have said ‘no thanks’ 10 years ago to my dad’s old Marin hardtail. Been a real pain to try and work out a suitable winter hack. Then again... I am being picky when faced with this...

Is that where shit bikes go to die?
-
• #12371
....yes.
There are some gems hidden in there. More or less this is a huge storage space full of donations to the bike shop, so it’s hit and miss if anything good gets buried with the shit.

The Hardrock with the silly long travel forks might be fun until the head tube snaps off

Yes, that probably would be the noise you'd make, after it happens

It’s all too messy down there. Volunteers and residents ‘help’ with the social enterprise, so you can never be sure what’s happened when you turn your back for a minute. Everything is cytek safety checked after servicing before sale in the shop, but there’s a reason customers don’t visit the dungeon. Generally if it goes down there, it is being forgotten about and something else has taken its place in the repair stand to get built up for sale.
I don’t know enough to know where to start, all I know is how many of these shit bikes I’ve had to repair and how many get scrapped. So much shitty componentry and heavy frames.
Might have to hold out for a miraculous road/cross/gravel bike option to come up.
Put it on a lower shelf..
