  • I didn't mean the fork - I wouldn't braze anything except eyelets onto an old fork to be honest, including canti studs. New fork would be required either way methinks. But I don't really know anything so take that with a pinch of salt.

    Cable disk calipers are cheap, 6-bolt QR wheels can be had cheap and overall it'll brake 30× better than cantis. But yes, you won't be able to do it for £30 or whatever if that's your budget.

  • I feel ok brazing canti studs on the forks as the frame is 531cs so the forks and stays are plain gauge 501 rather than butted 531. It’s mostly for clearance and the fact I want to try it over other factors tbh.

  • Yeah, but my point is that disks always have the same or better clearance than any rim brake (plus you could do 650b and stuff). But sounds like you know what you want and I'm not one to dissuade people from slightly strange plans so go for it.

    You could also try mini-Vs, there's some discussion in this thread I think. Most of the same advantages of cantis but much better braking.
