  • Is that an 11 speed 105 mech on a road link? Handles 42 ok? What cassette?

  • Yep albeit SJS's cheap road link copy, Shimano XT M8000 cassette. Handles fine until you go big ring/big ring and mash it up a hill whilst fully loaded.

  • This is so lovely.

Did I miss the bit where you explained the 28t front chainring?! Had a quick browse and couldn't see anything

  • Thanks, it's not the fanciest or lightest, but it's certainly the bike I ride the most. Sorry, I meant 34 front inner ring - apologies for the confusion my brain's still in holiday mode. I've edited the post.

  • I meant 34 front inner ring

This makes a lot more sense now!

  • I appreciate your time. No rush.

  • Ya its still going

I will be rebuilding it at some point to be more like yours, except with 700x35 G-One

  • Good to see, such a great bike. I know it's not the lightest and the headtube could be longer (personally) but it does most things really well. Think I've settled on 38mm wide tyres, as I've gone to the effort of converting to 650b it feels a bit pointless going really narrow but do like the extra mm's when going off the road.

  • I also wish the HT was bigger. When I rebuild, it will be more of an of a rando build like @amey

But this is only once I fins something with a bigger HT and bigger clearances, like a Vaya

  • I am thinking of selling my genesis for £800, that guy must be having a laugh

  • Sell it to me for Sparky Senior.

  • Over priced when it was first posted a few months ago and two price drops later it's still at least 350 quid too much.

  • Having thought about it, the fact it go up to 11-32 rather than 11-34 (like the Tiagra 4700) is usually why it wouldn’t able to handle it.

Maybe get a cheap Tiagra derailleur to tie you over for now?

  • FYI - I was chatting with a Salsa dealer near my old office not too long ago. Essentially Salsa have withdrawn from the UK market. That will make sourcing frames harder in future.

  • @jambon Menai Bridge! That view is 50 metres from my Uni labs last year. Looks like an amazing trip on a great bike, well done.

  • Thank you sir, didn't have the time but would like to have explored Angelsey, especially the racetrack which might need to be revisited. As a taster for touring I couldn't have asked for more and is already getting me thinking about next year... Also totally fell in love with Wales all over again, the landscape and the people were all amazing.

  • There are some others on my list like a Kona rove

  • You can get the Pelago Stavanger as a frameset too and with 63mm rake fork for 40mm of trail.

  • He did have probably the last XL Marrakesh in the UK. Can PM you deets if interested

  • @MisterMikkel I will add that to my list
@Aroogah as memory serves they're quite long and low, but I will keep it in mind, thank you
@jambon Soz will stop high jacking your thread now

  • Mixing things up in the stable and will be selling on the Sunday best Moser, replacing it with this. Love the CdF which gets ridden 90% of the time but it's not the lightest or fastest so have been hankering for an audaxy bike. Things left to do are:

    • Continental grand prix 4 season 28c (fingers crossed they'll fit)
    • 6800 compact chainset
    • Titanium layback seatpost
    • Salsa liplock collar
