Hey I'm from Dublin, here are some suggestions in the city centre if you've only got a day.
Good lunchy/ brunchy places: Brother Hubbard South, meet me in the morning, the pepper pot (get the bacon and pear sandwich all have good coffee too. My favourite coffee shop is Proper Order in Smithfeild if you end up going to the Jameson tour. Kaph is good and central too.
For a pint: Grogan's is an institution, lots of locals go here and is the best spot in dublin for people watching. Hacienda is a bit out of the way but a funny spot to visit only opens at 8pm and you have to get buzzed in by the owner shay (it's in no way exclusive. The lord Edward, nice victorian pub with cheap Guinness.
