My ex has an indoor cat, he's a very happy fluff monster. Make sure there's plenty of stuff to keep them stimulated and active, and various levels and private spots for them to explore and feel safe. They'll particularly enjoy looking out the windows. Get them as kittens though, won't be easy if they're already used to being outside.
Indoor cats generally live longer than outdoor cats too.

I see. Not the responses I expected so I probably have less excuse to go back and put my foot down now.
I was aware of the leads. I should say I've been made aware of them by the other half who has thought of all possible ways in which to make having a kitty possible. Including "taking it for days out" in one of those cat carrier bubble backpack things.Where does one adopt a kitten/go to be adopted by a kitten?
The few times this year I've gone to cat rescues, they've just had little old boys with very particular needs.
Including one little fella who liked to sit upright on his back legs and would only eat his dinner if he was stroked while he ate and wouldn't drink any water unless it was in a different room to his food.In terms of indoor/outdoor, I agree that its not fair to keep an animal locked up where they don't want to be so I think I could probably let go of my fear and let it out back for a wander as well as trying to drag it through the park on a lead. I'd be sleeping easier at night if the cat preferred the indoors and was content choosing in rather than out at night especially

I have always thought this type of backpack very awful. There isn’t enough room in the pack for a cat to sit down properly I don’t think. If you are gonna take it out in a backpack, you might as well put a harness on it and put it in a normal backpack.
As for adapting, how about double trouble? This way they have a play mate?
Plenty of places to adopt: Celia Hammond (they are a bit rude and annoying but their heart is in the right place) and Battersea (where Patch is from, but my experience with them was truly awful) are the 2 that comes to mind immediately. Google cat resure in your area and you’ll find plenty.

Edited to say that Remus & Rambo look like they will be trouble!

They'll get used to that, then you'll have to step it up to pepper spray.

Wait until someone you know ends up with a bunch of them by accident.
Whatever you do, do not buy them from eBay. Do not buy them from anywhere, unless you want a specific breed and you've done your homework.

No I'd only get from a rescue or someone I know

eBay gumtree Facebook. I had a colleague who once had a cat and he ‘loved’ it so much but he needed £50 for whatever reason so he sold it on gumtree... 🤷🏻♀️

Also if your cat isn't going to go outside then adopt a FIV cat.

My cat wasn’t an outside cat til I got her, aged 18 months. She took to it fine and now loves being outside. But friends moved from a house to a 5th floor apartment and so their cat Mia is now confined indoors and after a couple of weeks she was fine and has been ever since.
If you want a cat then you ought to get a kitten or an adult cat that has never been outside. I’m not sure it’s true that cats like or need to go outside - my cat sleeps around 20 hours a day and as long as she’s fed and groomed each day she’s happy, although she has access to the yard via the cat flap. We too live on a busy road but she doesn’t have access to the front, and she rarely strays outside of our tiny yard into the scrub land behind. She’s quite shy, which means she doesn’t really stray far.
You could try putting up posts and running netting over part of your garden if it’s practical, or extending your fence posts upwards and rigging flexible green netting up which is impossible to climb.

I have a collection of slightly grubby duvet covers from which the mud will never quite come out in the wash.
I know the princess thing too, this one invented the term.

Currently the only way that works is if I go out and chase him off with a stick. Even that only works for a short period each time... and going out at 2am in the garden when I am in my nightie is a bit silly... 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
