I get it maybe comprised, wear out quicker etc but having something I can take on the bus/ train whenever I want, is a big plus.
It mainly for winter commuting as for some reason I am really slow and the trip back takes nearly a hour and half. Hopefully with an assisted bike it’s more consistent 70 minutes or so.

tested an electric bike a couple of weeks back, on my 15mile commute, and found depending on your normal speed, it doesn't make much of a difference time wise, it's more a case of, it doesn't take as much effort to get to 15.5mph, and/or maintain it, so commute takes same amount of time roughly, you just don't feel as knackered at the end of it..

I think my average on the journey is around 12-13mph, I need to check as I maybe slightly quicker on the longer, clear bits on the canal path!
It’s a bummer if it’s doesnt improve the time though.

Very handsome, that.

Nice! Mid rise bars? Is the stem "old raw" or new "black smoke raw"?
-
• #5284
New old raw, it’s gloss raw, black lacquer is a limited premium option, raw lacquer is constant

So it seems 'operation stick a 17T on' is a success. I would have taken a few pics of the process, but it is pretty simple.
Would recommend to anyone who yo-yos between "4th" and "5th" on the stock 6 speed.

can you give brief steps?
-
• #5287
Thanks, my colour choice of them all favourite of them all.
@frankohara mid rise bars with S stem and M cables, stem is standard raw but darker than the rest - held it up against a smoked raw and it’s much lighter - frame is particularly shiny silver on this one - really happy with that as goes well with the silver kit. Didn’t want Black Edition, all about that silver son front hub.
@maynardeames correct.

• #5288
You can have all black with a silver front hub if you let me build it! ;) looks ace though!
-
• #5289
The bike was spec’d around the son, think RL is one of the few colours that go well with silver parts. Couldn’t live with mismatched hubs (or an SP Dynamo).

looks hot, what happens to the old one?
the lowest gear on that must be mega lols
-
• #5291
Old one was a shop bike, lowest gear is about 28 gi? Remember I live in Leeds, it’s 500ft over 3 miles ride home from the pub... (or 10 minutes in an Uber #slipcover4lief)
-
• #5292
Yeah, I know people who have done mad stuff on them but that’s despite, not because! I love mine but I’m not sure I’d want to do more than 10 miles at a stretch on it.

Take off 16T sprocket, put 17T one on. Job done. Left chain the same length, 1 tooth isn't going to make any difference.
The ridges in the SRAM sprockets are not quite as pronounced as Shimano ones, but it does the job.

ah! I thought you went 3 speed with 3 cogs ..

Has anyone used a carbon seatpost on a Brompton before?
-
• #5296
Have experience of, not silly enough to use myself...
-
• #5297
A 540mm Chinese carbon post, what could possibly go wrong?
-
• #5298
Am I correct that with a most carbon seatpost for Brompton when installing that you can’t fold it away/very tight fitting?
-
• #5299
Your weight saving on a carbon fibre seat post vs an aluminium one is going to be >< insignificant.
ETA - If you want to lose weight on the standard seat post, go for the Ti one. -
• #5300
Ti posts also flex a little and give a good ride, according to my mate who has / genuine Brompton post.
disgree, but thats personal, I know plenty doing 100mile+ trips, also know 3 guys on world tours..
