Why would you when as a vet you can be like 'yeah maybe needs doing' and cat owners just pony up half a grand?
It's like when you get car MOT'd and they are like NEW TYRES £500 NOW and you are like UM OK TAKE MY MONEY IT'S NOT LIKE I NEED IT.
(We don't have a car but you know what I mean)
Difference is tyres actually cost the money you pay and labour is added at an agreed hourly rate. Vet bills seem to have a hefty markup on everything and no logic behind the ‘labour’ pricing.
