  • Anyone think 172.5mm cranks will be a problem on a fixed pomp? I'll be on 32mm tyres. Plenty of ground strike clearance?

  • I have seen your bike before, great color and source of ideas:)

  • On big flat bmx-pedals u might, but never ever clipped in.

  • Cheers! It's a SSCX biek now

  • There I was thinking you had respect for the English Language.

  • Worth a go then. I'll be spd'd up.

  • Sorry I don't know what I've doen

  • RL340 is what I use with linear pull v-brakes (specifically Tektro 926AL in my case):

    https://www.cyclingdeal.com.au/buy/tektro-rl340-road-bike-drop-bar-brake-levers-set/RL340

They work very well together. Still wish i had discs!

  • PX tech support answered that it's not RAL color, supplier has his own code and PX don't have it. They don't have any other color codes fot that matter, thats what FAQ on they website says.
I will talk today to a guy in LBS/paint shop about identyfiing the color.

  • My bin build.

Waiting for dropbar levers and a Dicta 18t sprocket and then I will go SSCX my ass off.

Also, I might rebuild the front with a deore disc hub and fit a straight disc-fork on there.

  • Did anyone ever have a blue pomp stolen?

Cut white risers. Chunky headset. Cantis. A ding in the tt.

I saw one in the back section of a bootsale at the weekend along with a very smart new Kona with Claris.

  • I've not posted my own in this thread, it's also sans rack and with full mudguards atm

  • What fork and rack is that bud?

  • Surly Cross check fork and 24 pack rack

  • Dropbar’d

  • Autumn mode, both a Sunday best bike and a beater. The race blades are abit wack but they are four years old

  • Thomson is introducing a Cerakote plasma electrolytic oxidation coating as an optional finish on its stems and seatposts. The surface treatment is about more than just color, though; it’s also extremely hard and resistant to scratching. Just this muted green hue will be offered for now, but more are on the way. The upcharge is a modest US$25.

For anyone wanting to copy @Mr_B 's pomp

  • Mine's done a few miles.....love it

I'm looking for another frame (small) in tatty condition.....

  • Anyone selling a large? Doesnt matter about condition. Frame only. Thanks.

That's bullshit - just plain lazy canned response customer 'service'.

They have all the paint codes - they are on the invoice from the bloody supplier !

All Taiwanese frame builders use their industry standard YS paints catalog

V4 Blue was YS-7321, as opposed to the original V1/V2 Blue which was actually a Pantone colour 292C.....

But that doesn't get round the fact that neither translate to an exact match under the RAL system.

Here is mine (must be 8 years old now) after a bit of a spruce up after battering the broken roads of Berlin for 10,000km's in under a year

XL V2 in white (YS-701 if you were wondering....)
Run Singlespeed 48-18 or flipped to fixed 48-19
Challenge Strada Bianca 30mm open tubulars on Gippieme A40's
    FSA Gimondi 172.5 Cranks
Mostly the original On-One finishing kit, 3ttt 4GX bars / stem, Tektro CR520 cantis with DiaCompe 287v levers.
SKS Chromoplastic guards with a Topeak Super Tourist DX rack which takes a quick release MTX bag when needed

Why Planet X did not build on the legacy of the il-Pompino and Kaffenback and update with wider tyre clearance and disc brakes and absolutely own the steel 'do-it-all' market is a total mystery.... probably too busy buying socks i guess.

  • Wow, that really is the color :) cool someone knows all this stuff.
I dont really like this blue v4 color so I went with a black fork, it will be finished this week. In future I would like to repaint all to some other color so it's temporary anyway.
You have a great bike, how are the strada bianca for puncture protection in city?

Here is mine this summer, fork is a little crooked after a crash with some mtb guy.

And a tapered head tube would make choosing a fork so much easier

  • how are the strada bianca for puncture protection in city?

Touch wood.... so far so good!

I had a couple of issues - the internal width of the rim is a good few mm narrower than Challenge recommend - so getting an already difficult tyre to mount is made even more difficult - I must have pinched the tube slightly but all was well for a couple of weeks until the rear tyre blew - enough to blow the tyre off the rim with a massive bang and lock-up..... and another innertube's removable valve core failed

but nothing I would call a 'puncture' in 2000 km's which is good going given the amount of glass, bottle tops and car crash debris covering Berlin's streets, bikepaths and parks.... not to mention the brutal cobbles, kerbs and potholes

The ride comfort, grip and versatility over 28mm tyres like Conti 4 seasons and others I have gone through is significantly better

    They are pricey though....
