I think if you're bright and understand what you're going into there isn't an issue.
Obvs depends if you want a new car.
We're a bit of an uncertain point in our lives, so while I'm sure things will be fine, I'd rather spend £3-£5k and then have (relative) freedom over how long we keep it, etc. then down the line get something nicer.
Also wish I wasn't having to share the decision making process!

At 4k just put it on a 0% credit card

No - it may hurt dealers & manufacturers if the bottom falls out of the market but it will never end up affecting consumers as the financial crisis has.
With PCP, the dealer guarantees a final value with you before you sign on the dotted line. This is how the monthly payment is worked out...
Basically, it's:
Monthly payment = ((total value of car - final value price) / term lenth) * interest rate
If the market tanks and your car is worth nothing come the end of the deal, you hand it back and the dealer gives you the value you agreed when you 'bought' it. If the market surges and the car is worth more than the final value fee, you hand it back and have some equity to be able to put into a new model with that dealer.
You basically can't lose as long as you're able to afford the monthly repayment of the car until the end of the deal.

Almost. The “dealer” doesn’t set the price, the manufacturer/ finance company do, and they don’t give you anything if it’s worth less than agreed at the end of the term it just goes back to the finance company.

Semantics in know but technically they do give you the value as you then pay off the balance of the loan (which is for the full vehicle) but yes; saying the same thing i think...

So.......
As some of you will be aware, I had agreed to purchase a Seicento Sporting as some sort of 'bucket list' exercise, to be enjoyed before my imminent departure from this life. In short, it was a turkey in the flesh, and to the owners utter amazement I decided to walk away.
In the middle of a field. In Lincolnshire. At 8pm. With no coaches coming back to London until the following day.
If you do end up in a place called Wainfleet, consider staying at the Woolpack - cheap rooms, and full English included...
So being despondent, I did the only sane thing a man in my position could do - I bought an immaculate 1999 Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverleaf with 140k on the clock and FMDSH on the rebound! Collecting it at the end of the month from Northampton; anyone for a road trip?

Seems to be an issue, Ford are now warranting the damage.

Banger of a car. Would love to give you a lift to Northampton to pick it up!

I 100% support that decision

It's mint, the SH is bigger than the bible. Fella selling it is also getting rid of a 155, which remains my 90's BTCC wank fantasy, although it's the skinny 8v version...
I wish I had the technical know-how to post a pic or two of it, because it's absolutely beautiful.

Been trying to narrow down a new car via carwow and getting nowhere. Anyone here want to suggest something that fits the bill?
Something that can double as family car / slightly fancy work car / practical transporter for objects that are about 1.5m in length at the same time as passengers - 5-7 people total.
Presuming some kind of estate or people carrier (potentially SUV) but will want one with reliable park assist features to get me started as I currently drive my wife's kia c'eed and live on a street with very tight parking. Maybe something vaguely smooth over longer distance. Currently doing a lot of miles (about 2000 in the last week) so vaguely economical.
Carwow is just giving me tricked out range rovers which I neither want nor can afford. No real budget in mind but don't want to spend 120 grand and pretend I have children called Figgy and Ormerod.

Ford are now warranting the damage.
What does that mean in practice?

Volvo XC90
Figgy and Ormerod.
Tamsin and Oliver IME.
Edit: scratch that, other than farmers every real life person I've met with a RR has been more towie than towiC.

Apparently it'll need the bonnet doing at some point, and I'll be sure to check the floor plan for a floor, seeing as rust prevention was fairly low down on the list of things to do in a 90's Italian production line. But I've always wanted one, as they're a genuine hot hatch killer - 155bhp and 133mph was pretty damned good back in the day....
