  • I think this is pretty well policed already isn’t it?

Random bumping is well policed but weird bumping for the reasons above is not - possibly because we don’t seem to be clear on the rules. See the moderators thread.

‘Moved to eBay’ seems like breaking the exclusivity rule

‘Moved to <other site>’ the same

‘Sold’ should be a title update. I get how having the final post as ‘Sold’ is useful but an immediate title change and thread close a few weeks later probably works as well and doesn’t bump the thread.

  • I haven't been on the forum for long, but I've been on quite a few other forums, so I'll post my opinion anyway - I'm not sure I agree with you on this tbh.

Well, you should be allowed to stop an offer / sale. That is basically what 'moved to ebay' tells me - no longer available on this forum. Is it a problem that I know it is now on ebay? I'd say it should just come with an automatic thread lock.

Yes - but if anything, the thread should just be closed / locked immediately. If the sale is over, there is no reason to keep the thread alive, it will only clog up the Classifieds.

Yes but if I PM Amey and say 'hey can I buy your bike'

...if he says yes he is breaking both the exclusivity rule and eBays T&Cs

...if he says no it's sold it means his ad. has violated the principle that was behind exclusivity, in that if something is advertised here and it is not marked as SOLD, then it is still available (unless the ad. is like two years old or something).

...if he says no go buy it on eBay is he is a bit odd.

tl;dr end a classified with 'Moved to eBay' you are contributing to ducking up the classifieds , just end it by deleting the ad. and locking the thread.

I think in an iteration of the classified rules it was required to keep the thread open in case the item was not as described and the buyer wanted to leave feedback.

I'm not really so bothered because I'm not buying bike shiz at the moment, but it has felt the classifieds have been on the slide over the last couple of years, and I think these 'on here and eBay' by stealth ads. are part of it.
