I take it occasionally, but I'm not sure that the Yorkshire Grey rdbt before With an hill really qualifies as safe. @6pt might have something to say about it. It's more to be endured than enjoyed.
I have a pretty good route out from New Cross to layhams/west Wickham that I can post of it's of interest to anyone. It's not great but is mostly off busy main roads, flows well and has few traffic lights.

Not a fan of the Yorkshire Grey rdbt but in terms of expediency I’ve yet to best it. I have discovered a nice filtered permeability shuffle at the top of Eltham Hill that cuts out the lights at the top, though only of use if you’re heading out through Sidcup.
Just made this, might be handy for some. Safe and fast routes out from Lewisham to Kent.
