To be fair, if a bikes looked after tagging it everywhere won’t really matter.

Rather one that’s ridden hard and looked after than the alternate.

I go by those same rules for buying bikes now as well. Alas, I don't think they work for all bikes and as @BrickMan said, it depends on previous owners and how they feel about regular maintenance.
I do find Japanese bikes fare better over the long run.

Hence my 'looked after'.

Anyone want the blackbird? 62k miles, bit rough around edges and needs new tyres, but runs perfect.
