Moon on a stick desires are reliability, efficiency, internal space, 'ruggedness' (needs to be used for vet work), torque, fun. The Polo met my expectations for reliability, efficiency, torque and fun so I'm easily pleased.
In all seriousness, for that kind of budget, i'd look at something like a diesel (if you're happy with diesel obvs...) Focus will be reliable, cheap to maintain and efficient.
They're one of the better handling cheap cars so fun enough to throw around (if you're talking Polo as a benchmark.
