• So, our '07 Polo was hit whilst parked on Friday, no details left and the garage seems pretty sure that insurance will write it off.

We were pondering getting something bigger anyway so this would appear to be an opportune moment. What should we be looking at for around £2-4k? Moon on a stick desires are reliability, efficiency, internal space, 'ruggedness' (needs to be used for vet work), torque, fun. The Polo met my expectations for reliability, efficiency, torque and fun so I'm easily pleased.

  • Have you considered an 80s G-wagon?

  • In all seriousness, for that kind of budget, i'd look at something like a diesel (if you're happy with diesel obvs...) Focus will be reliable, cheap to maintain and efficient.

They're one of the better handling cheap cars so fun enough to throw around (if you're talking Polo as a benchmark.

This one is super low mileage for the price

  • 2006-2012 Honda Civic 1.8 petrol

For that money you’ll get one in good nic, low mileage and good service history.

Mighty reliable, pretty good on fuel*, cavernous boot and a revy vtec engine.

    I average 34-38mpg mixed driving
