Do they have to? Won't they just blame it on the EU? I'm not entirely convinced this is what the Tories actually want as it looks like an absolute cluster but it's an interesting theory.

How will they get the no deal bit past parliament?
By running down the clock, I suspect - if parliament send May back to re-negotiate at the end of Jan there's not enough time to ratify anything she gets.
What is needed is a way for Parliament to issue an A50 retraction, and I don't believe that mechanism exists.
We leave by automatic operation of law on the 29th, no matter what we've arranged (or not) in the meantime.
