  • I am looking to swap my SS for a geared commuter steel-framed bike. My current options are either new Jamis Coda Elite (carbon fork, hydraulic discs and 520 frame, flat bar) or used Ridgeback Voyage (520 frame, Cr-Mo fork, cantilevers and drop bar). Which do you think will be better for year-round riding? I already have Pickenflick for more sporty rides, this one is mostly for commuting, sometimes longer way than just shortest A to B route.
I like drop bars and cantis might make it less attractive for potential thief, but I have heard many bad opinions about their effectiveness. Mini-V might be out of question with mudguards.

  • Do you like hearing “shing shing shing” all through your ride and constant adjusting/bleeding of brakes to get them working as they should?

If not I’d avoid discs. I’d rather replace a rim than have the faff of discs. #dbad

  • sorry but this is real nonsense, if you can't true a rotor or set up brakes properly then get a shop to do it for you

That's pretty uncommon to be honest, it's more pronounced on single pivot mechanical disc where the static pads have to be a lots closer to the rotor.
