• Just don't try and drive one for long distances if you value your back?! (I say this as someone who loves defenders!)

  • Ironically one of the reasons I kept mine is because I don’t get back trouble driving it. I have done 600 miles in a day and been fine.
I’ve had a load of other cars in that time and not got on with them due to back issues. ( I have a series of damaged vertebrae ) It’s my ears that suffer!

  • You are obviously one of the lucky ones! To be fair I would still prefer a defender over a series 1 Disco, those things make me feel seasick with the amount of roll...

  • You are in a lucky minority - I drove mine with a trailer from Sussex to the West coast of Ireland and my back knew about it afterwards! My Girlfriend won't go in it for journeys over half an hour because "it's so uncomfortable!"

However, our '49 series 1 is very comfortable, or at least I find it comfortable. If it wasn't so slow, and deafening, and cold it would be my preferred choice!

Also, unrelated, that Chieftain Range Rover is horrible.

Whoever said Unimog - That is the best option.
