Excellent progress, and well done getting through the 4k-8k zone, I know it well! I was also at the Middlesex 10k* today. (*Best value race in the calendar at £6 for affiliated runners??) Exactly the same course as the Pride 10k that I ran a few weeks ago in 34:34, so I was certainly hoping to run quicker than that, if not sub-34 ideally. Was on 34 mins pace or thereabouts most of the way, but fell off the pace slightly, had a bit of a wobble around 7k and had to have a word with myself about not dropping out, and rallied for 34:17. Still a little way off PB form but going in the right direction.
More pleasing was the fact that we were always planning to incorporate it into a long run for marathon training, and this was managed in relative comfort. 5.5 miles there (with a bit of DLR in the middle) and 10 miles back after the race to bring up 21.7 miles for the day. 86 miles for the week, biggest of the year! Now to eat lots of pub grub.
Middlesex 10k Championships at Victoria Park this morning. Not got results yet. Felt a bit under the weather, and mood not the best, but the weather was good and so was the atmosphere.
Went faster than my inaugural 10k at the start of the month. Chip time in that was 37:10, and I was definitely under 37 today.
As far as GPS goes (I had to run a little extra to make up the distance last time, whereas today’s race was long) I’ve gone from 37:37 to 36:33.
I’m not going to lie. It fucking hurt today. Kms 4 to 8 were in the zone, the zone being purgatory. But I suppose raw fitness carried me through.
