  • looking for a cheap nikon fit lens with low aperture for nightclub photography, please tell me what you have. thank you!

  • nikon 50 f1.4 G?

  • 35 f2 af Nikkor

  • 28mm 1.8 ? 20mm 1.8 ?
    A flash ?

  • i’ve got a 50mm 1.8, but on dx body so it would be really hard for nightclub shoots.

Done a bit of research and i think the tokina 12-24 f/4 with a flash (which i already have) would suit me. anyone selling that lens by any chance?

edit: or that ^ might be too slow, any advice?

  • I used to do nightclub work with a Canon 40D + 17-40 L USM. Went through a few flashes trying to get something weak enough and small enough to light the foreground only and not get knocked off the shoe by drunk people.

You want a really wide lens. If you struggle finding one wide and cheap enough, use a 0.4x or 0.7x adapter if the lens is strong enough - only use on internal focusing lenses, not ones where the front part moves in and out and rotates.

Just buy the cheapest widest lens in your budget - it all looks the same after you process the images to look like the horrid nightclub aesthetic.

  • I’ve shot around f4 -f8 at parties and in clubs using manual focus. If using an slr I recommend a flash bracket like the Custom Brackets CB Mini-RC. It makes the whole setup with a full size flashgun easier to handle and puts the light source very close to the lens, like a compact camera (and not dissimilar to a ring flash).

  • Good shout, though I suppose even a proper ring flash must be cheap these days.

  • edit: or that ^ might be too slow, any advice?

It obviously depends on the lighting situation, the ISO capabilities of your camera, your decision on what is acceptable image quality..
..and what kind of photos you are actually shooting - people dancing? People standing around and looking cool? Artists on stage?
If you want to get sharp shots of moving people (including yourself - if you're in a crowd) then f4 might not cut it. On the other hand if your camera can handle high ISO very well then it works.
Of course with flash you'll have enough light, but, to state the obvious, EVERYBODY will know you are taking photos of them, which, you know, changes everything.

  • i might go for the sigma 17-50 f/2.8. that’s the widest and fastest i found for my budget, otherwise it would be the tokina 12-24 but that’s at f/4. quite confused here

  • might get this bracket, i’ve got a flashgun so ill give it a go

  • my ISO goes up to ~25k. ill be shooting people dancing and groups of people standing around and looking cool. Ill be at spots facing the crowd mostly. it’s a uni thing so people will ask me to take their photo

  • Sounds good, have fun!

  • Ffordes have them used (for half the new rrp).

You’ll need a ttl cable too.

  • Has anyone used any of the 7artisans lenses? I picked up an X Pro1 for basically no money and am using my Pentax lenses with it but it’s a bit bulky. The 7artisans are so cheap that I can’t see the harm in trying.

  • Been meaning to try something for the a6000

  • hey guys. how much do you think this one is worth. new in box

  • Got an open multipack of mars bars. About 3 left. Normal, not snack size.

  • Ordered the 25mm 1.8 for £52.99 from eBay. UK stock apparently. Will post some photos when it arrived in a weeks time.

  • Yea. I was gonna get one of the small Meike ones. All outside of UK though.

  • hahaha i'm not selling it. i found one locally and he wants 300 euro for it.

  • Offer him 3 mars bars. Sounds like a few pages back someone (or was it you?) talking about selling one similar to this, some kinda limited edition for 200€

  • nah not me. looked to expensive thats why i asked.

  • It’s easily worth €300 if new/boxed. You pay half that for a mint, non-Ltd edition example that’ll be just as nice to use.

I have one I could part with. PM if you’re interested.
