Oof, looks tight. You don't gain much in terms of max tyre by reducing wheelsize then. Maybe a DIY crimp job is needed! I would be happy with a narrow 42mm tyre...
Thanks for trying it

Framebuilders, ( @Hulsroy ? I know you've done dimpling) can I ask your opinion on DIY dimpling/crimping on a tube like the above to gain a few mm of tyre clearance after the frame has been built? Recommended or no? I know it's easy to do before welding but I have read that afterwards there's a risk you damage the frame and that you should consult a framebuilder. Blocks of wood, a vice/C-clamp, spare hub (maybe a bit of leather for paint) is apparently all you need.
Would be excellent to bump up to 584×47mm in my Kona Sutra (which clears 42mm) and similar in one of those Holdsworths. #bigcrimpin #dimpmyride
Edit: #newpagefail - I am referring to spotter's post

I don't think I can give general advice on this. It requires some qualified gut feeling to decide whether it is possible or not.
Take it to a framebuilder if you don't feel confident or want to do the required research. With anything DIY there is the risk of failure -

I found a reasonable priced ITM Krystal, but it has a 25,4 clamp. Probably not wise to use this with my Spotter bars (Bontrager SSR-VRC)

Plenty of clearance.

Anyone selling any wide (650mm+) 26mm clamp risers? I've got some shimmed 25.4mm chinese carbon bars at the minute and am concerned about losing all of my teeth.

26mm risers isn't really a thing.

Thanks. I have enquired with a local repair/modification/framebuilding place.
if you don't want to do the required research
Curious about this. I'm guessing this is the sort of thing you learn by spending years in a workshop with a framebuilder or in an engineering degree, but is there a book I can read or something? The internet tells me that framebuilding books are not very good and the internet is a better resource.
From basic materials stuff I understand that tube stiffness is proportional to tube diameter (along the direction of the force) hence if I crimp the stay they lose some lateral stiffness. But I just don't know enough about how important lateral chainstay stiffness is for a given frame. My own gut feeling is that a Kona Sutra uses cromo big-diameter tubes, is way overbuilt and is not crimped already, so given that other frames with smaller tubes have crimped stays, I'm fairly sure it can take it. But that's not very scientific.

Read the paterek manual (free pdf available online) and try things out.
Learning by doing. Just don't do stupid things.
Crimping chainstays won't kill you but it might ruin the frame. -

Thanks mate, way too kind! Love this bike, wish I had more time riding it...

Crimping chainstays won't kill you but it might ruin the frame. That was my impression, basically! I don't have the money to risk it now so I'll leave it to the local place. But neither frame is expensive so maybe something I'll try in future when I have more money/spare cheap frames. Thanks!
Edit: I feel like at the very least I can do a better job than this guy

This is basically a bike now...
Just racks to add then to the LBS to shorten and internalise the brake hoses, and probably wire the dynamo too depending on how awkward that ends up being.

Love this, enjoy your front TB14 looking rad while it lasts. 150 miles in one sitting? What gear? We need a road fixed/SS thread.

Cheers. Looking forward to having gears, 42c tyres, mudguards, hydraulics and a dynamo for autumn/winter, on a bike that hopefully won't feel like a hybrid to ride.

I have had some. Bontrager I think? Bought off hulsroy

Definitely 26mm and not 25.4?

As I recall, but the bike got nicked so I'll never know

Brake line for bar spins?
Yeah, dunno why it’s done that. No internet at home and hotspotting my phone is causing all sorts of ghouls to appear.
