• 650b wheel installed with ghetto tubeless with a WTB Convict. Not a light tyre by any means but rides nicely and does fill the fork up a bit more.

Also fitted a set of Nukeproof pedals and changed the saddle to a Turbo this week.

Turbo ain’t as comfy as the SDG but also isn’t as much of a sponge.

  • GOAT of the klunkers

  • Very nice

  • Finally managed to get a 1x1 fork with disc tab but now I'm not sure if going disc up front will ruin the old school look?

Canti at the back so would truly be a mullet brake setup!

  • Aw shit, just realised it'll definitely mean losing the snowflake wheel.

    Hmmm, decisions decisions.

  • Cheapo Brooks copy arrived today.

Looks good quality, bit concerned about the comfort warning label :S

  • Interesting, link?

  • Think I got the last at that price. It seemed to go up to £40ish after I bought mine, they’re now over £50.

  • Prototype coaster heatsink my mate made in his (rather well appointed) garage. Lucky for me he has a snapped wrist so I get to be test pilot!

@ottotto a cheaper to alternative to the Mone cooler you mentioned in your thread?

  • awesome, let me know how it works for you

    again love your bikes

  • I'm loving the Humu build, I'm just about to pick one of these up. That snowflake front looks immense and I love the coaster heat sync.

What's the biggest tyre you had on it when it was a 26"? I know they came with a 2.25" or something but it looks like it needs something chunkier...

  • How is that held in place? Looks great.

  • The two semi circular halves bolt together.

Tested it this weekend, works as good as it looks.

  • Need to try and keep on top of updating this a bit more...

Been mostly riding fixed out in country lanes recently.

Current bike of choice for this is my Pomp. Had drops on till recently, might go back but the long bullmoose I welded myself works quite well on it,

I have a new project, a folder. Wanted a Brommy but can't justify the expense the now. If bikes2work start up again I might splash but for now,

Will be trying to build a coaster brake rear wheel for it at work tomorrow. Spokes I have are too long for 2x and too short for 3x so will be attempting 2x snowflake.

Can't decide between an old school bmx side pull for the front or braze posts on for a mini v.

Leave it like that, do sick barspinz

I really want to build a folder up like a BMX. You're most of the way there. Just stick on some pegs.

  • Back end isn't too long, wonder if I can manual it!

  • Give it a go! Just watch that clamp doesn't kick the bucket when the front wheel hits the ground again!

  • Got a wheel built for the folder in work this morning.

  • How do you figure out the required length for snowflake lacing? Also do you make a form/tool for bending?

  • Add 2mm for each twist.

I just trust by hand, was definitely harder with these wee spokes than on a larger wheel.

Sort of sorts itself out when you start adding tension.

  • I'm not a fan of the looks but always wanted to build one. As it happens my pub bike needs a new wheel building.

  • Built another snowflaked wheel, for the Hummus this time.

Hope Pro 2 ss to one of the Onza trials rim’s.

    Much loudness, many clicky.

I haven’t been mountain biking much recently and I took the Hummus for a wee spin recently and just kinda felt like I was over the coaster.

  • I also ordered up a set of BB7 callipers from the cheapest seller on eBay - they came this morning, look and work fine and no import charges, and a cog and front tyre from Planet X.

The 27.5” wheel I had put on the bike has a track hub so a new front wheel was needed, I happened to have a Mavic Aksium wheel that I had no use for since going back to rim brakes on my Pomp so I’ll be 69ing the Hummus (ooh err).

Getting it set up this morning took a bit of faffing about, I forgot that when I’d welded the rear disc mount I didn’t align it with the dropout slot very well, it’s in line with the dropout front to back wise but the slots in the disc mount aren’t parallel to the slots in the dropout. It just needs a few extra washers inserting under between the caliper and adapter. Also had to ‘finesse’ the front adapter which was too wide and positioned the caliper inboard of where it should be, a bit of filing sorted that out and using a big v brake spacer in place of the small one in the Tri-Align system meant I could use a rather tasty 185mm Hope lightning bolt rotor (should be a 180mm).

Got a bit of a ride in before work and it’s so much fun being able to back-pedal again. And the two brakes makes the bike much more usable. I was never able to confidently manual the bike with the coaster so getting back that ability is great.

Looking forward to hitting some proper off road terrain later in the week.
