  • Ive been offered a checker pig CPX 3001 for very cheap! Just wondered if anyone had heard of them before and if there any good? It’s the same as the one in the picture just complete and a bit tatty.

  • Yes, they're ok as far as I recall.
In the early 90s there was a UK importer. I never saw them on the trails but they'd get a review in mbuk & were considered pretty reasonable iirc.
The company is still around now making das supergeilmountainbike

  • Checker Pig was pure cult mid nineties. ;)

  • Tire ID, @Brucy ? Nice build btw.

  • It's definitely a good investment if it's really cheap. These have/had a high sentimental value afaik.

  • E-stay is always a good idea

  • Well that was short lived!! Tightend up the loose headset and this happened :(. Oh well was only £10, I’ll just strip it for parts and hang the frame up some where!!

  • sad times. same thing happened to my Al-mega XT
    must be an e-stay thing

  • At a closer look I see a hair line fracture and weld behind head tube. So I reckon it’s had a heavy collision at some point.

  • Weld on a new one! Tapered, with modern carbon forks or some monstrous modern MTB forks would be funny

  • Anyone fancy a Cannonade Killer V500?

  • Got to pay for an emergency plumber, anyone want to give me some money for this? Its not light but pretty jokes. Paid £220, will open to offers around £150.. prob not worth selling for anything less tbh unless you can pay me cash in hand.

  • Halo Twin Rail. Cheers.

  • Not full retro but not sure where else to post(well, a wanted ad obvs).

I’m looking for something that may or may not exist...
currently plodding around the new forest on my Ogre, don’t get me wrong, it’s a great bike but the 650x3.00” tyres are a major slog.

So, I need a hardtail in my life: nothing fancy or overly modern(we’ve got many sets of 26” tyres in the house).

Does the following combination of things exist or did 29er kill it all off earlier than I thought?

    • 26” clearance for 2.4 knobblies
    • triple
    • nice fork
    • all day comfort but still capable of some low-skilled radness
    • discs

Did these things come together and easily found? In my mind I feel I should be able to find something that ticks all these boxes for cheap somewhere...

  • cotic bfe, previous generation? they're supposed to be great fun
    e.g.

  • Thanks, that’s exactly what I’m after but a bit out of budget at the moment..

Would there be treks, konas etc from early-mid 00’s that tick the boxes too I presume? There’s a spec in classifieds from 04 that would be perfect were it not way too big for me..

  • 2004-2005 kona explosif/unit. If you can find one. They were made from nice steel and go for under £200 on ebay.

  • You won't get proper 2.4s in the back of an Explosif. Nor most frames of that era.

  • Missed the part about 2.4 tyres. My bad.

  • I can live without 2.4’s, we just happen to have a pair at home. They usually live on Liz’s troll anyway.

  • That’s pretty much any mtb from 2008 onwards to 29er geddon (2012ish IIRC?)

    Earlier if u don’t want a 2.4”

You can probably get a 2.35 in the back of a carbon XC rig from 2010. Not that you would need to.
