  • I’ve got a 2016 Cannondale Supersix Evo in Matt silver with the black decoration. It’s 58cm and I’m desperate for a 54/56. Definitely willing to sell for a good price if you help me find a replacement frame!

  • The headset expander bung on my 2018 CAAD12 loosens after every single ride. What can I replace it with that will actually work? What about the Deda bung for carbon steerers? Ive used it before and it’s been great.

  • Is the bung set to expand/ grip in the correct place?

  • Yes, I think so. Everything greased correctly and torqued correctly as I understand it from the manual.

Is there anything that I should be doing differently?

  • you greased the bung? what

  • Specialized expander bungs are pretty good.

  • No.

I greased the bolt/thread interfaces so the torque is being measured correctly.

  • Is there anything that I should be doing differently?

Assuming your stem is torqued correctly it shouldn't matter if it comes lose. It's the two piece FSA jobby, right?

Unless it's knocking around? Which would be odd / concerning.

  • Yes, the latter. At the end of a ride there is play again in the headset. I am convinced that the bung slips up in the steerer tube.

    It's this headset.

  • apologies for a bit of an obvious one, but do you have enough spacers? if the steerer tube it the same height as the top spacer it'll never tighten up fully. Recently I had this problem and tightening it all up made it seem better then very quickly the stem would come loose

  • I have the same problem with my (identical) CAAD12, though I'm not convinced it's the bung. I frequently find there is a slight sticky-sounding creak at the handlebars. It used to go away when I tightened it all up but it came back routinely. Now I'm finding I'm tightening at the top cap as much as it'll reasonably go but it won't go away. I had the mechanic at Swift Cycles have a look at it and he put a more substantial bung in but the problem has come back. Currently weighing up whether to send the bike back to Cannondale for them to look at as I'm advised that this is the next step. Ballache! I read online somewhere of another guy with a similar problem with his CAAD12. Hmm.

  • weird, my caad12 does this exact same creaky thing periodically. I've even put new headset bearings in and it seems to have come back again although not as bad as before

  • Mines fine 🤭

  • maybe it's the factory paint that causes the creaking

  • Which stems are people using?

  • Cannondale C1

  • Zipp Service Course SL

  • Crabon fibre assembly paste? Bung and stem? Compression ring clearly being pressed by headset top cap?

  • I've got steerer uncut above my stem so my stem wouldn't walk up the steerer without a plug at all

  • 3T ARXII Team

  • Single bolt steerer clamp?!

  • a single 27 torx!
