  • That's one awesome bike!
@yakut did the last one on 40c nanos and drop bars. You'll be fine as long as you don't "push the limits"

  • great. I like that bike. it will be fine! please fit the largest tyres you have/can fit.

  • Seeing as I missed the last one I'm definitely in. Will get the tyres set up timeless asap

  • Rad! Thumbs up for fork crown mounted light. I was on this.

  • Sizewell Tea is a great cafe!

  • Set myself up tubeless last night so should be all good for this.

  • is this resolved yet?

  • Yes! In Suffolk as planned, on that date.
I have a provisional route, will share this weekend when I'm back from working abroad.

Just waiting till 7 days beforehand to check weather forecast is good then will book train tickets and post on here what exact timings things are.

  • Adventure!

  • hello, a little update.

this is now definitely happening next weekend as planned.
    the forecast is good!
I haven't had time to pick trains and share the route today, sorry. I will do it tomorrow.
thanks everyone for bearing with me. I think it will be a very special weekend.

  • Can't wait!

  • Sadly (/not sadly) I'll be on the farm

  • Not even sad to miss the last day of the Beer Festival for this

  • Here is the provisional route.
I need to: add dirt jumps (where are they exactly @TvH?), check some OS map references.
as trains in this country are crap, we will either stop at beccles, or ride the full route then ride back to beccles, depending on time. rail replacement buses only from lowestoft to beccles that sunday. fuck them.

    Please get these train tickets:
Outwards - London Liverpool St to Melton, Sat 27th Oct
    09:00 Liv St - 10:07 Ipswich
    10:17 Ipswich - 10:36 Melton
Return - Beccles to London Liverpool St, Sun 28th Oct
    18:21 Beccles - 19:32 Ipswich
    19:43 Ipswich - 21:03 London Liverpool St

The cheapest option for tickets for me was in 1st class, no idea why, so I'm travelling in style....

  • List time also

    Definitely yes:

    1. platypus
    2. spotter
    3. yakut
    4. TvH
    5. cgg
    6. pit
    7. dexter

    Maybe:

    1. @cake
    2. @laurenced
    3. @thross
  • Dirt jumps are at Lat 52.12807 Lon 1.51861, so we go right past them.

Dis gon be good. Also cold. Who's bringing what??

  • dirt jumps
    cold

Road biek, summer camping gear, ice tea.

  • Regarding the bus service, I think something is off with the timetable. The disruption is only slated to last until Friday, but if I look for train times even the weekend after it's still listing buses...

Edit: or not, there are about three sets of conflicting information

  • Great.

I'll bring 0º quilt and mat with a bivvy if it looks like rain is coming.
@yakut and @spotter might have multi-person shelter to share. are you planning to bring your tent?

Here is the second draft of the route. I am open to suggestions and diversions from everyone, especially those who've been round here. I have done the first half of the route before, but not the second half.

  • Looks ace!
I'm still borked from last Saturday so not entirely sure if I'll be able to make it. Don't want to slow the group down.

  • Unfortunately I'm off, as I've been 'convinced' to spend the day playing biek polo in London's famous London. Sorry :( (though reading about dirt jumps somewhat comforts me)

On the other hand that means I can lend a sleeping bag, silk liner and bike-packing backs if someone is in need.

  • Got my train tickets from/to Liverpool street. Did not bother with bicycle space reservation, hope it doesn't bike back, especially on the leg past Ipswich. 4 bikes per train there.

Shelter: +1C rated bag, inflatable mat, bivy sack. If one or two of you need a roof over your head then I can ditch the bivy sack and bring a tent fly instead. Designed for 3 people, tipi style.

Route looks good, flat-ish; coastal vegetation and sights should be very different to Chilterns I'm guessing.

Contemplating taking or leaving luxuries like cooking kit.

  • I've been on a train on the leg past Ipswich with at least 6 bikes onboard, seemed fine if a little crowded. However I think I will reserve for the first leg tomorrow via that phone line.

  • Gutted, working again. Need to sort out my rota asap! Have a blast gents.
