So if I go for one of these racks do I need a rack specific guard, or can I adapt my L mudguard?

@maynardeames, any news on eazywheels size?

I personally add longer bolts in the pack, so you can bolt over the mudguard/stays. or remove the stays and bolt to the guard. Yes 6mm easys
