After having a lovely latte made with Allpress beans a couple of weeks ago, I treated myself to a bag of their espresso blend. Arrived Friday and made my first coffee yesterday which tasted extremely bitter.
Everything I've read tends to say that bitterness comes from over extraction, but extraction time etc was exactly the same as I'd usually get with my normal beans. The beans in the packet also seem to smell bitter.
Can coffee beans be too fresh? There's no roasting date on the packet, sadly.
Yes, coffee beans can be too fresh if you're using too close to the roast date. I'll let someone more qualified like Steve chime in for perfect time range but I think at least 3-5 post roast is preferrable
