I just installed some stock (shimano?) pad holders that I had with these pads.

wait till you see the full bike .. critics have described it as 'like a visual representation of a vomit consisting of irn bru and squid ink risotto and gaviscon'
-

Unlike DBAD which was “suckling baby vomit”?

Just moved back to London and realising that I need a Brompton again!
Very low on funds atm as I'm just starting a new job so am thinking of buying a knackered old one and doing it up over time. Not sure if this is actually just a recipe for a hole in the pocket or a good idea! Can you get a decent brompton (3 speed ideally, dynamo ideally, not the crap spongey old brakes) for a reasonable price or is getting a bike that is basically just a frame and building it up a good idea?
Seeings as the frame is pretty much unchanged, there aren't any compatibility issues I should be aware of are there?
Something like this:

Absolutely fine, I'll send a pic once I am home, riding them for last 6 months or so .. if it doesn't rain much go with the green pads, they are kinder to rims and koolstop salmon

Thanks, think I've got green ones on my polo bike and they're fantastic in all conditions...

basically, look for a 2004+ so its LWB and then everything is compatible pretty much. Second hand bromptons sell for tonnes, so often best to use a cyclescheme and buy new. Frame parts are not sold to the public, only to dealers for fitting, so just picking up a frame etc to build is more difficult. @amey got lucky with some old parts from me, I do have a black S stem and rear triangle to move on along with other bits ..

Just bite the bullet and buy a new one, they’re not like picking up an old steel road frame and starting a current project, if you buy a knackered one it’ll cost a fortune to set right (may even be irreparable) and will never be as good as a new one. There’s so much that can be fucked that you need to be aware of.

Do you even ride your Brompton? Mine is a dirty old wreck compared to yours... Bought some Shimano pads at my LBS, could not be fucked to wait for some Swissstops... Everything went on fine, haven't tried it out yet so might have to ride the polo bike in tomorrow... Just in case...

ha! I am almost exclusive Brompton these days, 15 mile round commutes erryday. Its scary how much I ride that bike. I clean every week though, I hate riding dirty bikes.

They go for more in London, obviously. You’re probably looking at a minimum for £400 for a reasonable one, just bide your time and wait for a good one to pop up on eBay or Gumtree. Look out for stolen ones on Gumtree, obvs.

Me and wifey have these on ours (S2 and S3). Mine is an H&H I got from Paul Chiu at Bikegang in Taiwan for about £60, hers is a copy from China for £35. Set of ezwheels, remove the mudguard stays and drill a new hole in the guard and you’re off. Makes the bike a piece of cake to wheel around like a trolley, either by the bar or the seat.

And then 5mm easy wheels for the rack and 6mm for the frame?
Is there a low profile, high quality frame wheel? I catch my heels on them as it is and can't imagine that standard easy wheels will be better.
-
• #5095
pretty sure its 6mm for both, but now I need to check!
what do you do with your feet?! TPW ones are pretty slim?

I ride with my ankles in

• #5097
you want to tie an elastic round the stem to pull them out! ;)

• #5098
Are those holes (top left) specifically for wheels (e.g. easy wheels) ?

Yes

OK thanks - do you know the width at this point ? - just wondering how much greater it would be than the built in rollers .
Witness the shortness! Are you getting canti mounts brazed on too?
