I've been playing NES Gradius on my Switch today, fuck me I'm shit... I used to be SO GOOD at that game!!!

When I was about 9 my teenage uncle lived with me and my mum for some reason, on receiving a NES for my birthday I was completely amazed when he actually bought me a nes game (radius) as this was coming from an uncle who would demand exact change when sending me to the shop a few doors down to buy him a mars bar and a can of coke to make sure I didn't buy any pick and mix with his money.
It soon turned out it was not quite the generous act it first seemed he was a huge fan of the arcade version and for months after that my mum would go to bed at 11pm and he'd be sitting playing it and she'd get up for work at 6am and he'd still be sitting there playing it in lingering fog of weed smoke.
