Does sound a bit excessive. Have you tried a quote for something like the SH300 to see how it compares. Maybe the Xmax has a bad rep. The SH300 is possibly a better scooter anyway, less macho but seriously well set up for city riding.

Well finally bit the bullet and have bought a 250 Xmax. The insurance is steep so Idecided to not buy a £3k+ one and go a bit cheaper. Haven’t had a scooter in the uk since a gilera runner about 12 years or so ago. Just need to get some more padlocks and get rid of my mot’ed, just serviced, low mileage (26k) Kawasaki gt550, the ideal winter hack / first big bike, owned by me for the last eight years. Toying with binning off the motorbike and getting a 250 Xmax scooter but the insurance quotes are a bit extreme- Carole Nash £500 for third party only with nine years ncd and had a license for 26 years, they wouldn’t even offer tpft or fully comp or Bennett’s £650 for tpft on a £3k scooter.
