I'd like to record for posterity that, after having checked the results, I came SECOND LAST in my race this weekend. Goodbye, stench of failure!

Haha, well you've got an absolute bargain. Build it up cheaply with some silver finishing kit, and 9/10 speed shimano and you'll have an amazing bike.

The 853 ones were fillet brazed I believe. That one isn't. It also looks to me like there are 2 none standard 'plates' (repairs?) - one below the seatclamp and one above the BB.

I was just going off the eBay listing with the 853 bit. Don't know much about them personally. Doesn't look like aluminium or titanium?
Edit: it even says "fillet brazed" in the description. Maybe it's titanium... but doesn't look like it to me

What do you make of it?

That I should sell mine and retire ;-)
But honestly it looks shit.
The plates suggest repairs. I can't believe a framebuilder would do that from new. Decals look hella fake which also suggests repaint. The rear hanger is definitely OG GT style (and what @edscoble should have had made on his Rando bijk sorry).
Rear dropouts and forks are unbelievably ugly with a skinny head tube.
Overall I find it hard to believe this would be a Tiemeyer creation. But it is def TIG welded with (shaky) hands and it is def steel (hence the rust on inside of chain stays).

£450 wouldn't buy much of a retirement!
Weird frame anyway. The seat clamp plate drilling/slot is quite neat so I'm surprised to hear that it's a repair. And also no idea how someone managed to bust the seat tube just above the BB! It's all very strange. Maybe it was some limited run before or after the classic brazed white ones like yours or a prototype or something
Edit: or maybe it's Apprentice's First Practice Frame™

It is not neat mate

GT as a company are not artisans.
Most of their bikes are shitty welded :)
I am mostly interested in Tiemeyer bikes anyway. -

I was referring to yourself and the other excellent framebuilders on here with the artisan comment 😉 (again not sarcasm)
And I don't need any convincing that there are some crap GTs out there, I had an ancient GT Aggressor which must've been the worst bike I've ever owned. I swear the bloody thing was over 20kg
27 inch wheels tho.
