  • Build it like on the 2nd photo

...but with a 24" front wheel, and chase mopeds.

  • 51 53,5 found this dream for 200 euros : )

  • Waaaa bargain. Now work your magic g!

  • Love those wheels
I assume they're tubs - is this for track?

  • Drillium monster is alive!

  • Been doing some work on this pos

Progress halted though because my bb is too short

Does anyone have a mega long Shimano UN54 /55?

The one i tried to use is 118mm

  • Unfortunately not. According to this the max they made was only 12mm longer (and most likely hens teeth). Will that be enough?

  • If the ring is 110bcd, maybe just buy some cheap old mtb cranks instead? Probably much easier to find than an rare old long-spindle, and given the rareness of said bb's, maybe comparable in price?

  • It's not even that long AFAIK, 127mm seems to be the longest Shimano do. I just had to find a 122.5mm UN55 with Italian threading. I had to order it from a seller in Spain.

  • Hmm to hazard a guess I don’t think that’ll be enough. Maybe as @andyBmore says I need to ditch the cranks for something that gives more clearance.

So.. Does anyone have a generic set of mtb 110bcd cranks for sellz 😅

  • Or I could just give the chainstay a little tap with a hammer

  • The cranks route seems like the better idea.

  • Yeah I agree. Was joking about the hammer... sorta

  • I have a set of cranks (no chainring) that would fit the bill. FCM540 175 Hollowtech 1 (Octalink, not external BB). BB is included (126mm BB-ES25). Reasonably worn but the BB seems ok and they work fine.

I can't fit them as my BB tool won't go over the Octalink spindle.

You can have them for free if you want them. Collection from Wandsworth. Possibly post at cost.

I imagine there will be better offers though.

  • Thanks v much, would have taken you up on that generous offer but I should be patient and wait in case a 5 arm crank comes along, I have a few suitable chainrings already!

  • Been offered these

I’m trying to do some research but will they by default sit further out than road cranks?

  • will they by default sit further out than road cranks?

Probably not. In those days, the wider chainline of MTB vs. road was generally achieved by use of a longer BB spindle, so the relation of the taper to the ring mounting face is much the same. You should get a wider Q than road cranks, but I'd be surprised if it was enough to solve your problem. You probably need something with Q>170mm

  • Ok thanks, will keep looking then.

  • Leeds used to be pretty safe in terms of leaving your bike, as long as you had a d lock you’d be alright. There’s been a big increase in bike and component theft over the past year and with winter coming I thought I would try and wintrify and beaterfy the Argos. It’s been in progress for a while with stem and post being replace with system x, put some spare gators on (protection from the glass strewn streets) and some bluemels I had spare from a previous project instead of the hammered VO guards I had on previously. Finally replaced the c17 with an old selle campionissimo. Hopefully it looks shit enough to fool the thieves.

  • I've always had a soft spot for this bike, what is the yellow V by the front hub?
