I tackled Ditchling Beacon for the first time last night. My legs are complaining this morning.

For Wednesday and Thursday last week I decided to try what I had failed to manage in 2017: riding to Arctangent festival in Bristol with one overnight stop.
Last year I got to near Gloucester on the first day, camped, then woke up with horrific knee pain and got the train to Bristol and rode the last 26km. So ~159 + 8 to Gloucester + 26 to festival = just under 200km.This year I got to just outside of Cheltenham on the first day - ~201km, then managed the rest of the way on the second, only missing one band I wanted to see - ~130km. It was so gratifying to set myself a challenge and meet it. I was absolutely ruined for the festival - exhausted and got ill, with sore (still recovering now) knees, but it was still a great time.
Trying to add strava iframe blog embed things but can't get it working brb

Well done. Judging from where your line ends, that festival isn't exactly in Bristol, though, is it?

Thanks. Nope, but it's a lot more recognisable than 'Fernhill Farm Experience' - the actual venue.

Well, you could have said 'near Bristol'. :)

This is just a suggestion for a possible weekend ride this Sunday.
https://www.velouk.net/2018/08/24/preview-victor-berlemont-trophy-rr/
The HQ address is: Woodcote Village Hall, Reading Road, Woodcote. RG8 OQY.
The race itself should be interesting, especially in the later stages, but it's a good area to ride in and a reasonable distance for a summer Sunday starting from London.
I hope to see some of you on the day - I'll be out there as reporter.
P.S. Those of you who've been on the 'Hard Day in January' will note that this course is very close to the roads we've used for that event.

I don't suppose anyone was mad enough to ride out to the Victor Berlemont since it was pissing down. However, bad conditions do make for good racing so you may like to look at my report:

Looks like they got pretty similar weather to us as well! I enjoyed the write up, thanks.

I did the longest solo ride i've ever done yesterday - was considering getting the train up to Brimingham and riding back, but figured that a London - Oxford - London loop would be cheaper so did that.
Solo riding is a whole different experience to group, but I guess 250km hurts whether you're in a group or not.

Yesterday we did 100k of South Australia's finest gravel during the Lofty 105 ... The top guys banged this out in 3.30 hrs despite a decent amount of head wind and a technical single track section at the end.
The night before we did a smaller part of the route (40k) with a much smaller group (9) through the darkness and pitched out tent to wake up for the real deal next day.

Did my first London to Brighton ride yesterday. 3h 41m, managed Ditchling Beacon in 8:29.
My knees hurt today, but I'm pretty pleased with myself as I've only been road riding for about a month to prep for this.

Went to the French Alps for a weekend with some friends. Climbed col d'Izoard and col du Granon (and drank too much nice French wine). Damned, that Granon is so hard (11 km @ 9,3%) but so beautiful.

I did a charity ride to Cambridge.
We raised nearlt £4000 for Orchid, a testicular cancer charity.
I was going to ride back but gave my inner tubes to my mate with three(!) p*******s so jumped in the cab with my colleagues. 6k of bike between them, and they didn't know how to take the back wheels off their bikes!

My legs er sh*t at the moment, and i forgot water and food. But i made a nice little solo trip through Raadvad. Thats where they used to make some fancy danish designed forks and spoons. ladies and gentlemen
The weather tuned back to "normal" danish conditions this weekend after a massive 3 month heat wave.
