  • Does anyone have any good websites / blogs for bathroom ideas?

And unrelatedly, any recommendations for good builders in Norwich?

  • Pinterest.

    No, really.

  • I guess so but there will be lots of options. Maybe even one with Porsche printed on it!

You could go with louboutin red.

  • Anyone know a joiner in or near Herne Hill who would sort my door then? I realise it is a small job but I am happy to pay what it takes.

  • Why would a rhythmic tapping noise, which I think was pipe related, start when no water running but stop when I run the cold tap briefly?

  • Dripping inside?
Do you turn the water off quickly? Might be water hammer.

  • Is not loud.
Might be dishwasher / tumble drier related

  • Dishwasher was my guess. Does it go away when the taps open or you just can't hear it? Does it return when you turn the tap off? Sometimes the dishwasher makes a rhythmic noise tapping noise because of the water bouncing off the crockery, if the water pressure decreases then that noise might go away.

  • Metal strap on one side. Sprayed water on both sides. You can still force it to bend when it's dry though.

Oh, and I bought a repaircare filler as suggested by Airhead. Will get all of that done and leave to settle for a while before painting in Little Green oil.

  • Ok. I'll try something similar. I can get the door off, so it might be a bit easier

  • Noob woodwork painter questions:
Can/should one sand primer? I have a a few tide/sag marks I'd like to flatten out before overcoating.
If there are patches where the primer is thin, should one give it a 2nd coat?
(I found it pretty hard to get the right balance between too thin, over-brushing, and droopy paint... )

  • Also now sceptical of my choice of One Coat Gloss to go on top given my lack of finesse...
Part of my reasoning to go with solvent-based was that there are lots of filler patches and they all seem to say overcoat with oil-based paint for outside. Is this true or can modern water-based protect fillers ok?

  • I'd say sand and second thin coat of primer. Why not use an undercoat?

  • It's "Sandtex 10 Year Primer Undercoat" which even with lots of stirring keeps trying to revert to bottom half sludge top half watery in the tin.
    (In general what's the difference?)

  • My understanding is that primer is for bare wood and undercoat is for painted wood, so that's confusing. We were advised primer, two coats of undercoat and oil-based Dulux weathershield topcoat for our external woodwork.

  • Check you’ve got suitable brushes / mini rollers to apply. I’ve picked up some Axus woolen mini rollers to replace my Poundland ones.

I’m not convinced about water-based paint for front doors. My Dad just did his with F&B primer and top coat, and it’s just not very good overall. Chips easily, doesn’t look very smooth despite careful application, etc.

  • I've got natural bristle brushes, they're Harris brand and seem ok quality.

I'm just about to try Sadolin Superdec (as recommended by @Sharkstar ) on the door so we'll see about this water-based business...

  • I would have used Zinnser Stain Seal with 2 coats of undercoat and 1 or 2 top coat. The main problem most people have is overloading, trying to get too much coverage/opacity from each coat. That's why you get curtaining. You can sand curtaining out of primer but it needs to be fully dry, use a 240 grit paper sanding lightly across the very dry primer and you'll take off the ridges. You can also scrape them off with a very sharp blade/chisel, that takes a bit more practice though.

  • ta. the bumpy bits aren't fully dry today but will give a fine sand once they are. is the overloading problem the same with gloss? ie. better to do a couple of thin coats.

  • Superdec goes on well with a roller.

  • Been doing a touch of DIY over the last couple of days, laying a traditional Danish turf ridge to the house.

  • You're doing BOTH turf and "kragtræer"?

  • Ha! Yes.

Got to get done laying the turf by Friday lunch, as there's wind coming. WoooOOOooooo!!
