  • I’m always looking for more volunteer riders if anyone is interested too...

I am interested actually. Could you pm some details or a link?

  • Lower Weston, and work in Weston itself so I’m sure I’ll see you about soon! Same - getting out for my first proper ride tomorrow with VC Walcot, can’t wait.

  • Hope it’s a good one ride out. And yes, see you around! We’re up the other end of Weston. There’s a good pub down near you - hop pole. Worth a look in if you haven’t already.

  • Just arrived in Bibury.

    As expected, nothing going on.

  • That’s what we like around here. It’s quiet.

  • Gutted I was going out with Walcot tomorrow but change of plan...
    Will be out next week

  • You missed me optimistically giving it the beans up the first big hill and then cramping up - not a good look. Unfortunately on nights next weekend but I’m sure I’ll meet you out soon enough

  • Yeah every ride starts with a hill. I ride an all city my pink (pink version) if you see one in Bath...probably me.

  • So the Wheels for All event in the Forest of Dean yesterday was a great success.

We had Toby Olubi* as a guest speaker, lots of riders and a bigger suite of accessible bikes than I'd seen for a while. Played on a recumbent trike which brought out the Centrist Dad in me, until I met a hill.

There's a PT (10 hours per week) paid coordinator role there at the moment, and a need for more volunteers (either greeters, or more technical) still both at the Pedalabikeaway location in the Forest or in Cheltenham. PM me if you want details.

*He's team GB bobsleigh for those of you into your winter sports.

  • Looking for for minimal/no traffic road cycling suggestions to take my 8 year old who has a new road bike. So far doing Bristol-Bath cycle path, Odd down cycle track and Forest Dean loop none of which are in Glos so wondered if there is anywhere closer I'm missing...

  • I quite like the lanes besides the Severn for that kinda stuff. Pretty flat, picturesque and very little traffic.

  • Around Franpton-on-Severn / Slimbridge has lots of v quiet lanes, and there’s the sharpness canal towpath also.

  • Hey, am I right in thinking you’re somewhere around downend or thereabouts? (Just from what you said up-thread)

  • I'm in Avonmouth. Just follow the river up.

  • By Bristol-Bath have you included the Two tunnels section in Bath heading out to wellow?

  • Ah ok. I thought you might be near me. I’m a street away from the south glos / Bristol boundary. Which is making finding a school for my daughter a barrel of laughs.

  • Ah, fair enough. Thankfully schools isn't something I have to think about for a few years yet, though good luck with it.

  • Cheers, good call on Frampton I haven’t done the epney longey loop for ages but actually it’s flat and not many cars so would be good for a family ride...

  • Just logged in to recommend the Two Tunnels option - much more interesting than the Bristol/Bath Path - good pub in Mells and even better pizza garden in the summer. There's one dodgy bit entering Wellow when going under a railway bridge otherwise it's almost traffic free. Another option is to go via the Tuckers Grave/Slaughtered Lamb at Faulkland for a bit of local colour.

In the Slimbridge/Berkeley area the pubs at Purton and Littleton on Severn are both great and if you can make it to Severn Beach there's an (erratic) train to Bristol Temple Meads to get you home. It's a bit fiddly but you can also cross the bridge and head into Wales.

There's also circuit riding at Castle Combe as an alternative to Odd Down.

  • I just got a leaflet through the door promoting Newent Onion Fayre.

  • That’s the nearest town to us. Have yet to go to the onion festival. Forum outing?

  • Compulsory for members of the non-subforum, surely.

  • be very wary of allium festivals
