  • I think £350 is more likely

  • Wait, so you bought it for £650 (or sensible offers) on here as a full bike-with nice 10spd Campag groupset/wheels-and now having glued in a new headset cup and put on a mish mash of second hand 9spd Campag kit on it you think it's worth £500 more than it was previously?

Tell me more about this bicycle economics, please!

  • That's a bit unfair. It had (second hand) 10 speed Veloce on it, and Mavic Aksium wheels. It now has (second hand) 9 speed Chorus and a good quality handbuilt wheelset.

Pre 2000 Chorus and Record are very good quality, and hard to find in good condition. If you want to learn about the economics of vintage Campagnolo, just have a look on eBay - i'm not ripping anyone off here.

Did you read the part about the headset? The bike was sold to me with the crown race interface loose. There was no damage to the seat, I measured it. Also, it didn't need Loctite 609, the transition fit on the forks was within limits, but using bearing fit reduces the risk of vibration if the locknut works loose - 609 is used for close clearances, not for repair bodges. Besides, if I had anything to hide, would I have mentioned it at all? If i'd sold you the bike, would you have taken the forks off and checked the fit before handing over your money? I'm being transparent.

The price I quoted is a start point, and you're entitled to your opinions, but I don't think i'll be selling it for £350. Some people are just unkind.

  • i'd like to give the forum the option of buying before going to eBay

It can now go to Ebay

  • 500 quid could buy a nearly NOS Chorus-maybe even Record-9spd groupset.

Say the Campag you took off it was worth 200 minimum, that's 450 max you paid for the frameset, so you're wanting 700 odd for a mixed campag groupset in pretty unremarkable condition?

  • Nice frame!! I bet it rides beautifully.

Just a suggestion... if you price up all the parts and sell them separately on ebay you might get close to what you're asking.
But usually on bundles like this, where parts are not matching and the overall look of the bike is not particularly striking, the amount of time, extra money and work put to "restore the frame to (roughly) period spec" won't really influence the price that you paid originally.
Put it like that, it's like if you put solid gold bar ends on, and add the retail value for the gold on top of the value of bike.
Nobody will buy it, as most likely interested people will be attracted by either the frame, a complete groupset (not a mixed one unless there is a good reason), or the solid gold bar ends.
Gold buyers will be put off by the price added by the rest of the bike, and frame buyers will be put off by the price added by the solid gold bar ends and the incongruent component choice.

Other example would be getting a new bike for £3000, service it regularly by replacing parts and after 2 years sell it for £2000, plus all the service fees and new components added, let's say... an extra £1000? That will make the price of a two years used bike same as the new one, nobody will buy it right?

If money can wait, take time to sell everything individually.

PS: Pegoretti was a Pinarello third party manufacturer only for professional's frames.

  • So, what would you ask Breso? And please don’t say £350.

It is possible to give guidance without being so abrasive Ube Grube. I’d appreciate your suggestions.

  • You're selling a bike you bought on here less than 8 months ago for almost double the price.

    I'd suggest not doing that.

  • As it is, unfortunately it'll be worth not much more than what you bought it for originally.
With a complete mint Record groupset and maybe some new decals applied to please the potential buyers, you can start to ask closer or above the £1k mark.

  • No offence mate, but Grüber is right.

This 9spd group is a before-2001 model, so not even compatible with later style shifters-derailers. And the hubs are very old-obsolete, the rear does not even take a standard 27mm lockring, but rather, a 26mm one (which is ALWAYS included with these hubs..) Spare parts for these hubs are generally not available.

Oh, and that 10spd Power-Shift veloce with those late-style calipers and external BB cup chainset is just works plain better (IMHO). Esp. since it it smoother-and more ergonomic-better comfort.

Aksiums are not bad, more robust than those handbuilt ones on the razor thin fossile rims.

I'd ask around 400 GBP for this bike, if not less (this 9spd stuff chorus worth around 180-200 gbp)

  • Split it: the value is in the frameset and the rest of the build is pulling it down. I doubt anyone who appreciates the pedigree of the frame will be willing to pay the premium for what's hanging off of it.

For £1,100 I'd want a complete group and matched wheels. And as practical, for you, as the bars and stem may be, they don't belong on a "classic Italian thoroughbred (etc)".

If you do persevere with selling it complete, you'll need to work harder to justify the price, as "mostly 9 speed Chorus (and some Record, Super Record." and "I think the rear hub is Athena)" doesn't cut it. Detail all the components under frameset, wheelset, groupset and finishing kit.

Just my opinion though: if your build is comparable to what's fetching £1,500 on eBay, then I'd reel one of them in!

  • Wish I could get paid that much for washing bikes.

  • is this still available and what price is it?

  • Now sold i'm afraid.
