  • I’d prefer a regular incandescent, and try to find an old school floorstanding anglepoise, so I can move it between machines.

Might have to settle with fluorescent but it gives me a headache just thinking about it...!

  • Is LED any better? Hmm probably not if plain AC powered. Guess it depends on layout but I'd probably want something like an light strip behind each machine, and something portable like the lamp in front. Hate shadows getting in the way.

  • Not sure about LED. I'd prefer to keep a consistent ambient light level, and then use a relatively point light source for the area I'm concentrating on.

In Italy I had two great windows allowing a lot of light in through the day, illuminating the machines and work table, and also a basic lightbulb above/behind me. I could work fine until the evening/December, though it was a little distracting staring out the window at people staring in at me.

In the 'spare' room I've been using the tailoring machine here at my family home, there's only the main fluorescent strip light but it's relatively close behind me. Had no issues seeing the material.

Until the insulation and panelling happens, I'm not sure how claustrophobic the shed will become. Already this morning it's clear how small the windows are, they won't be providing much in the way of ambient.

Suppose I'm keen to keep a single colour temperature as close to daylight, so I don't want LED or anything too cool from a strip light. Indeed, that cold light would be fine to focus on a machine/table while working, but I find clashing light sources a bit distracting. Blame the photography degree.

When I spoke to my dad about finding an anglepoise lamp, he thinks grandma had grandad's one right up until her most recent clear-out. I might have to search the charity shops instead now.

    To Do:
    Insulation
    Panelling
    Electrics (light/mains socket)
    Flooring
    Shelving/Tool hooks
    Storage solution (boxes/filing cabinets)
    Work surface
Stands for overlocker & coverseam machines
    Inventory

    Probably some other stuff too.
