I think what @Pawlus is wondering is why the tube isn't reversed, like on most MAX frames. If I remember correctly, some framebuilders prefer this way because of the effects on the ride characteristics. Some Eddy Merckxs have it as well.
@Jaap also had a theory about the wide end of the toptube being wider than the seattube. So this orientation makes more sense from a mechanical/framebuilding perspective (the wide end of the tube makes full contact with the headtube this way, instead of poking out at the sides around the seattube). Correct me if I'm wrong, Jaap.

Correct, larger contract area/more welds between the seat tube and top tube.

This is definitely something I would regret selling.... although I know in these days of riding big comfy tyres justifying keeping a pure road bike becomes harder and harder.
