I got annoyed at the corners of my sheet of ply, so out came the card and scissors:

However, the kit-car builder I got the carpet and adhesive from only had black carpet, and I don't think it works:
So I've ordered some grey carpet from another vendor.
Quite please with how neat it is and how much space is freed up by removing the wheel.
