  • Went on holiday a couple of weeks ago and had to leave the spare wheel in the garage to fit the luggage in.

    With wheel:

    Just my luggage:

I decided that I liked the additional space, but I'd like some preparation for punctures, so I bought the worlds most expensive bit of foam:

    Filled it up:

Made a template for the new floor:

Buzzed that out of 6mm ply:

Realised that it is quite tough to open, so:

    Better:

However I'm now thinking I might redo it before the carpet and adhesive arrives tomorrow to fill out the upper corners a little.

  • I passed a maroon Z4 (with roof down) approx Ore the other day but sadly didn’t clock the driver!

  • Attractive tiny (stroppy) redhead with shades and soppy grin; my commanding officer. Shiny head; me. Only Z4 in the area in that colour and we would have been going to or from Pett. Give us a beep next time, that will confuse us!

  • Demontweeks.

Does anyone have a discount code going spare?

  • My annual plug for my local vintage motorsport event https://www.kophillclimb.org.uk/ this weekend. Great event, loads to do and see, some amazing machinery, all for charity, easy walk / cycle from Princes Risborough station if you're not driving.

  • excellent. loved seeing the hill climb in St Peter Port Guernsey a couple of months ago. might see if I am get out there on sat

  • I'd consider a grandstand ticket at only £4 as the route itself has high hedges in lots of places. But there is just as much if not more to see in the field at the bottom of the climb with all the competitors & static displays

  • I am looking for a recommendation for a machinist- will need a 5-axis mill. This is for my tappet carrier.

  • cheers dude. might swing out there

  • Glebe engineering in stoke on Trent

  • Cheers.

I got annoyed at the corners of my sheet of ply, so out came the card and scissors:

    Much better:

However, the kit-car builder I got the carpet and adhesive from only had black carpet, and I don't think it works:

So I've ordered some grey carpet from another vendor.

Quite please with how neat it is and how much space is freed up by removing the wheel.

  • Until you get a blowout and you're waiting in the rain for the AA to arrive...

  • I've got, in the tray underneath:

    • DynaPlug kit
    • Inflator
    • Tyre sealant

If the tyre is totally fucked then I'm bang out of luck, but I also have in the car:

    • Umbrella
    • Down jacket
    • AA card

I might put the spare wheel back in if I'm going somewhere in Europe where a 285/30/18 Michelin would be like hens teeth, but in the UK most places can get one in 24 hours/I can get the car recovered to wherever I want to go and get a mobile fitter out.

  • ^ this is a decent solution I think given the benefits it brings in terms of space. My old RS4 had the same set up with sealant and an inflator (not that it was needed to save space). I never used it so can't comment but sure this'll be work well.

  • Is the bike behind the seats?

That is bonkers; it was hard enough getting a bike in my MG.

  • Ha!

I have since discovered that I can get the wheels in the boot and the bike in the front seat. Just.

The latter method allows me to close the boot, which is a plus.

  • Spotted at local trail head. Fun bike carrying beater.

  • Is the bike behind the seats?

Yep, without the full-length mudguards it would have been easier. I reckon I could get my breakaway frame in the boot, which might be an entertaining way of starting a Sportive.

  • yes. more of this kinda stuff please

  • A few pics from Kop Hill today

My son was lucky enough to sit in a McLaren Senna
