Just do it, if you've never done it before you're not going to be winning so just give it a bash
I think @benjam rode his cross-check for cross (https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/282271/#comment13139658), and I'm going to ride mine in some races this year I hope

With the clamp in place?

Ding in the end of the tube :-(

Sorry yeah I saw that, I meant if thevframe came with the clamp in place then it’s particularly bad as it wasn’t done during shipping and the person that put the clamp on should have spotted it.
-
• #1082
Yeah that’s a good point. Looks like it’s wanged against something in a way that couldn’t have been done while the clamp was on.
-
• #1083
Should be easy enough to bend it back? Or since it’s new are you going to just try get it replaced?
My 1x1 had its headtube badly dinged in shipping, I bent it back and it’s been fine since.

Ha, it's @Heldring's frame, not mine - i was just sticking my nose in :-D
But it does look like it could be easily knocked back in to shape - as long as there's more than 2mm of seatpost inserted, it should be fine!

Yup, with the clamp in place

• #1086
Probably true. But I'm going to return it anyway.

@greenhell
This winter might change your mind about that? I am looking for a nice slick pair to fit, but I don't know about colour choice
-
• #1092
Nice - I’ll keep an eye out for that!

Tempted to go fixed on my crosscheck for the winter in Dublin, anybody got a sram omnium crankset on theirs? Also is the surly 130mm hub best to go for to build a rear wheel?
-
• #1095
I had a wheel with the 135mm surly fixed / free hub and it gives a very wide chain line. 130mm may be better.
-
• #1097
I’d go 130mm too, the surly hubs are lovely, but you can get good enough sealed bearing hubs for much less..

Big ride plans abandoned. Gone full summer commuter instead

I'm doing the same. This is much cheaper than the surly hub:

Cool thanks all for the advice will get one of the sturmey archer hubs to try keep it cheaper.
Has anyone on ere' used their Straggler to race cross?
I know it's entirely plausible but how much of a pain is it racing with a 12kg bike?
