Today I took a picture of a man who had climbed up a very tall building. He was sitting up there.
A police officer saw me and said if the man jumps off the building he will seize my phone as evidence.
Can the Police do this? Seemed odd they would want my picture of the man sitting up there as evidence? Also evidence of what?
-
• #93507
evidence of what?
They won't know until they see the pictures. You may have caught something they didn't spot.

Like climbing technique.?
-

No, they can't. But then most policemen have very little idea of what the law actually is, and so just make it up as they go along. They usually get away with it, because no-one else knows what the law is either.

Can the Police do this?
Maybe. PACE 1984 S19 suggests that if the constable thinks that there has been an offence, and that your phone is evidence relating to that offence, and that he has to seize it there and then to prevent its being concealed or destroyed, he can nick your phone. This is all based on a "reasonable grounds" test, i.e. the plod will make something up at a later date to justify their action if it's obvious that the constable has behaved unreasonably at the time.

That only applies to seizures from premises, not from the person. To seize a mobile phone from someone's person the policeperson would have to have a right of search, and as far as I'm aware the police don't have a power to search someone merely because they might be a witness or is in possession of something which might be evidence of an offence.
Not really my area of the law though, so I may be wrong about the extent of search powers.

It's OK, the arse was reinsured.

This washer on my rear hub is broke. Can i get it replaced? What’s the name of it? I can’t find anything like it - is the alternative replacing the axel?

Knowing what the hub is may help.

In practice, if the phone is in your hand, the plod doesn't have to search you, he just has to ask you nicely to move away from the area for you own safety in the usual way, i.e. push you hard enough to make you drop your phone. Once it's on the floor (and quite likely you are too), the phone is just an abandoned piece of property in the street which he can pick up for safe keeping 😐

The alternative is to get one (or a small stack of them) from your local hardware.

What happens if you smashed it to pieces as soon as he said that, I wonder?
-
• #93518
Even if the phone is owned/being held by someone not committing the offence? ie. innocent bystander?

• #93519
What if you legged it? I wonder if you or the person on the building are now more interesting..

Me again - noticed that my rear derailleur touches my derailleur hanger like below. Diagnosis?
Viewing from the back, limit screw is in correct place (it still touches the hanger even with the limit screw screwed right in to the point chain moves onto 2nd smallest sprocket), hanger is straight (recently checked), and all looks ok to me. Mystified! No issues in any other gear combination.

If I were to buy a frame in Sheffield, would anyone be able to collect and post it to me please?

What would happen if a clockwise rotating black hole collided with an anti-clockwise rotating black hole ?
-
• #93523
What would happen
Probably best to ask in https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/170308/, but AFAIK angular momentum conservation just means you might get spin flip depending on exactly how they meet, the ratio of angular momenta of the two black holes etc.
If the two BHs had exactly the same angular momentum and collided on a straight trajectory perfectly aligned with both their axes of rotation, with one rotating the opposite way to the other, then you could end up with a single BH with zero angular momentum.
