  • above mudguard, top of front rack so shouldn't get any wheel spray/water travelling upwards

  • But yes Hippy, you are right.

Depending on how permanent you wanna make it though you could just wire it up with a splitter on all your dyno bikes and then remove it when you don't need USB charging. #cleanlinesbro

  • I've actually just had different plugs for the lights and the charger, just plugged the charger to the hub when I wanted to use it. Which has not been that often, as I have Etrex using AAA batteries. And then the charger is separate from everything else, in case it fails. And it doesn't add any resistance when it's not plugged in.

  • How's the beam in the Sinewave? Mikko said it's so much all over, that he didn't want to use it for TCR, but used Luxos there and sent the Sinewave to the finish to change to that for SRMR.

  • I had spare SP plugs and thought about doing that but I didn't want the hassle so I just wired mine up permanently.

  • If you’re riding in über wet conditions, would your mudguard not direct some water right at the curve of the back of the light?

Not that I’m blaming you, the lights should be wayyy more waterproof, considering they’re designed to stay on the bikes, and made in a country where utility cycling is really normal (a lot of bikes live outside all the time in NL, DE, DK etc).

  • Bin ich in Deutschland, den ganzen Sommer über kein Regen.

Are you saying that water is going to come the whole way around my mudguard, then up and into the lamp body?

Not something I've noticed-in my mind most wheel spray stays in the third of the wheel from point of contact with road to mid downtube-bike mostly kept inside.

  • When you’re basically swimmng on a bike, water is projected fowards out of front mudguards. Happens quite a bit IME.

  • I took some sugru and puttied around all the clear perspex joints on my (2nd,1st one died because of water ingress) IQ2. And plugged the bottom hole, no problems so far..

  • Can anyone tell me what this light:

    Has over this one:
    https://www.bikes24.co.uk/busch-mueller-lumotec-iq-xs-t-senso-plus-front-light-led-70-lux-black.html

One is the XS-T and the other is XS-DC. But I can't see what that means. Any ideas? DC as in direct current?

  • Well without clicking on the links, one says E-bike and one doesn’t

  • Yes but I still think they're the same light. Unless I'm missing something.

  • E-bikes are 12v are they not? and Dynos 6?

  • E-bike version is probably made to run on DC from the battery rather than the AC of a dynamo hub, which means they aren't interchangeable.

  • Yeah, all this is correct. You can't use the e-bike version with a dynamo. Simples.

  • Its not entirely correct or rather the bit about 12 or 6v. Supernova for example make ebike lights in 6v. And B&M make some that will accept a range of voltages from 6-42v.

    Thanks though.

  • Purely hypothetical but could you not just use a rectifier to convert AC to DC or vice versa?

  • I would guess a battery + rectifier like the ones used for USB charging would work a treat

  • I have no idea, and very limited experience with that sort of stuff. But why would you when the dynamo version is cheaper?

  • Just wondering. I'll buy the proper one. Just wanted to see what the difference was.

  • how do i wire my secula+ to my SP hub? I'm running it with a SON edelux ii, so presumably it does go in the hub, rather than in the light.

The front light is already wired with a neat little plastic block connector plug. I don't see any space for extra wires, so I'm guessing I have to combine the two sets of wires - any tips?

  • You can use Secula either way, but it doesn't have a switch, so if you wire it directly to the hub,. it's always on. So you'd indeed just get both of the wires in the same connector.

The headlights usually have connectors for a taillight, and then the headlight's switch will also work for the rear. Edelux has this too, though they have made a model that didn't.

  • Best bet @gillies is to wire it up to the front light.

For the light you need a ring crimp washer and a spade connector that goes between the light mount and the front light, the spade connector goes on the little connector in the base

  • whats the diff between supernova E3 Pro 2 and E3 Pure?

  • Are dynamo lights' output measured in a different way to battery powered lights? All the dynamos seem to be around 200 lumens but the Strada RS is for example is 1200 lumens.

If 200 lumens is enough for riding at night, why buy a 1200 lumen light?
