Anyone used these people before?

Yup, went in about 4.5 years ago as it was just round the corner from my old flat, ended up being really good friends with the owner and all the staff. They're all really nice chaps who are not concerned with selling you anything, they just give honest opinions. I've been very happy with everything they do. Have a look on Google at their reviews, they all reflect this.
Also in the interest of fairness Micycle N4 are also really nice guys.

Noob question, but can I slam a quill stem? How low can I go?

Yes, as low as you can really. Brake bolt will ultimately stop the quill if the steerer is reemed all the way.

How low can I go?
Stop before you get to the fillet between the quill and the extension, you don't want to notch that with the sharp edge of the top headset nut. Remember that a quill tends to pull down slightly when tightened, so allow for that. On small frames, you sometimes hit the butt in the steerer long before you're slammed.

Cheers. All done. The frame is too big, but I’ve just about managed to recreate my usual measurements.

Nice looking bike... Cutout downtube levers too :)

I didn’t totally slam, but got it low enough.

It’s a beauty. Excuse the awful photo. I’ll take proper ones outside soon.

Torchy has a good rep when it comes to batteries. His website has some interesting stuff on cell testing.

Say you from Northampton.
Now, why would he do that? :)

If you're not using K's Bicycle Workshop on Archway Road, you're doing it wrong.

^ This.

Just changed bars, trying to screw my Veloce brakes back on, one of them spins and doesn't tighten. I'm guessing there's a thread inside that's stripped, but wanted to check if I'd missed anything before I buy a new one.
Edit: fixed, somehow.

Indexing question!
My partners bike's gears repeatedly/frequently slip out of index, way quicker than they should, and I can't discover why. I have the same kit on my bike without any issues, so I know what I'm doing with the setup.
Within a week / a few short rides the indexing will be wildly out, to the extent it chatters away furiously / won't stay in any gear.
Any ideas?! We've changed cables, replaced chain and cassette (at same time), and had the hanger alignment checked. Also got a reputable shop to set it all up as was starting to think I must be doing something wrong, but same result a couple of days after collecting it.
Problem doesn't follow the usual rule either of "struggling to get onto bigger sprockets = more cable tension required and vice versa" - once the indexing starts going it isn't happy going up or down the cassette.

Check the integrity of the cable outers as there may be enough bulge when the tension on the inner increases. I've had compressionless outers burst a bit.

@mdcc_tester maybe? Anyone have experience with scroll saws?
I need to take seriously the cutting of my net/patterns for the bags, saw this on local gumtree at £30.
Appreciate blades are most important part, but was this any good in its day?

Dirty derailleur not moving as freely as it should? Also, top jockey wheel not floating and therefore failing to allow for any tiny errors in derailleur travel.
Are you using compressionless cable outer?
-
• #93472
Flimsy barrel adjusters somewhere in the system? Mine goes out over time because I use crap inline adjusters
Also check for play in the derailleur?
-
• #93473
Cheers for all the possibilities all - will check out my cable outers (yes, they are compressionlesss), derailleur, barrel adjusters and persevere.
Or buy a new bike.

If it is too much of a good deal, it will be a fake
Thanks, that's very good advice.
