  • Ha! Thanks for the heads up!

  • It's eye-opening watching someone who knows exactly what he wants, describe exactly what he wants, and in doing so realise that he doesn't know what he wants at all.

  • Image rather aptly found on a UX article titled "Why the user is not always right"

  • That fork is lovely! Is there a pic of full bike?

    Also @Sparky is right

  • Not yet, it's something he's working on now.

    @Sparky is normally right!

  • Sparky also knows how to fit a headset with two spoons and a needle, I’ve seen him do it.

  • Rode the genesis on a long ride yesterday.

Issues that need to be resolved in the new bike:
Front luggage placement; bag runs flush against the handlebars, quite hard to use the tops, I have some blisters on my knuckles lol. Things need to be considered are head angle, stack, stem angle. Will probably be a custom rack.

Provision for clip on aero-bars; definitely would benefit from an additional position. Need to figure out how to make front luggage accessible with these though ..

Bike fit on Saturday then BikeCAD play begins.

  • Seems like handlebar bag and aerobars may get together well, depending on the height and the opening of the bag.

You need a decaleur or sort of...

  • You need a decaleur or sort of...

I'd want to avoid a bar mounted/kickflix kind of a bag. Rack and decaleur is the approach I'd go down with, i'll see the dimensions of VO decaleur otherwise get that made too.

I think on that bike ^ the space between the top of the guards and bag is a missed opportunity plus I really love rack mounted light as it completely utilises the beam without any shadows from the bike.

  • I'd want to avoid a bar mounted/kickflix kind of a bag.

Just get a basket bracket and modified it.

  • lol no, this is a £5k bike not £500.

  • Did you do fenland friends in the end?

  • yeah, it was hard, first 600 though so wasn't going to be easy

  • Or better yet, just get a 137 basket and attach it to the rack, thus bag can be loosen lower and stabilised in the basket.

Before you get a carbon fork, please be aware that your Croix de Fer may have the shorter fork than the CX length one that usually come as standard nowadays.

  • lol no, this is a £5k bike not £500.

It's a Croix de Fer, if you spend £5k on that, then why the hell did you not get the titanium one for a lots cheaper?

  • He’s getting a custom bike ed

  • ed, shut up and get that rear brake stop fixed on your 650b rando bike

  • He’s getting a custom bike ed

In that case, custom rack and decaleur keep it looking nice and tidy!

  • exactly .. xoxo

  • Nice! Rewarding yourself with a custom bike. PBP next year then.

  • Yep ! On this bike, the owner wanted to stay rackless if I remember. Personally, I NEED a rack as well nowadays...

  • PBP next year then.

aiming for it, lets see .. the wounds of 600 are bit fresh :P

  • Fuck a pbp for a laugh. With that said, I have my sights on the Cascade 1200 next year.

Glad you enjoyed the ride though, Amey. Have you decided who's building it? Triton?
