You're not paying a lot for it and it's not exclusive. So who would be covering the cost of the staff, electricity, stock etc. for them staying open an extras 3 hours or so every evening so they can give out free coffee?

A lot of the more modern/hip independent cafes out in the provinces now open 7am-4pm. It’s a thing now.
I like coffee at 10pm but that’s not UK normal.

its luxury in its 'industry' (sector whatever) .. luxury = 3 or 4 times the cost of a the usual price in that sector IMO

If you don't understand then I can't tell you.

They turn the coffee machine off too. They’ll do cold drinks or a filter coffee if it’s still hot

Sorry but I just don't buy that stopping giving out free coffee a few hours earlier impacts the 'luxury' appeal of the business or that stopping having a cafe open when it's not selling anything, therefore losing money, means that the business is going under.

Why has it been decided that after 4pm all the cafe does is give out free coffees?
-
• #31611
Because Sumo’s point (such as it is) depends upon it.

Le Col don't seem to update their site to show out of stock items. I took up their save £50 when you spend £100 offer back in February, and almost other things, ordered some knee warmers. I got them at the end of May, just in time to fully utilise them.

"My friend worked as cafe manager at spitalfields and was trying to get them to close the cafe section early for months"
I'm just going by what people are saying, you're the one saying the whole brand is doomed because they won't give you a free coffee in an evening.

Haha. Last week while I sat in the soho store drinking my luke warm filter coffee, I watched the apologetic member of staff turn away approximately 5 paying customers in about 10/15 minutes. Bullshit that its making them a loss. Its just not making them mega money and they probably want the space in the stores for more profitable product. Like their new sleeping bags...

I only know about spitalfields, which was apparently dead late afternoon. Soho has a lot more space and I could see soho staying busy later.

I was told that there are loads of people registered as RCC members around soho just to get them free coffee. Many of them have no interest in cycling or associated clothing.
I have seen many independent cafes without alcohol licences that close around 4pm.

That is true.
And you can definitely get your money back and then some just buying coffee -
• #31623
My membership was 99% coffee

I kinda did this. Joined for the coffee and the slightly reduced feeling of awkwardness when out on Dom's Wednesday AM CX rides.
Probably should have made more of an effort to join training rides etc.
